Meet Justell Vonk!
For many years her medium of choice was black ink, currently she works mainly with graphite and oil.
Justell Vonk was born in the North Caucasus, part of Russia, but was raised in the Ukraine.
Since July 2019 living and working in Germany, in Hamburg first and since August 2023 in Lüneburg.
Since childhood she was fascinated by dreams, languages and nature.
In her earlier career she was heavily influenced by Slavonic folklore, mighty forests and mountains of Caucasus and endless fields of Ukraine.
Since her move to Germany her works became more directed to the inner human state, current perception of the world.
For her inspiration sometimes one word is enough to see a complete picture in her thoughts that later comes on paper or linen. Many of her works are the visions she gets in her dreams, often a couple seconds before falling asleep or getting awake.
In her drawings and paintings she explores the human interaction with the outer world, a repeating theme in her works is a feeling of being an alien, trying to figure out your place on the Earth.
Justell Vonk has been actively creating art since 2011. She felt an urge to express her thoughts and feelings visually and began to paint and draw first just on her own. Mostly self-taught, she had a chance to study drawing and painting for one semester at Gage Academy Of Artin Seattle, WA and then took two semesters in painting at Surikov Academy Of Arts, Moscow.
Justell Vonk showed her works at several international art shows, created books’ and CD covers’ illustrations, created a series of illustrations for a horror episode “Uncanny Annie” on Hulu.
Currently her works are represented by The Dark Art Emporium, Long Beach, California.
